Former Assam MLA, 2 others held in connection with recovery of illegal arms | Guwahati News

GUWAHATI: Former Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) MLA, Hitesh Basumatary and two others had been arrested in connection with the recovery of an enormous cache of illegal arms and ammunition on Saturday.
Hitesh has been an influential chief of the BPF, which dominated the Bodoland Territorial Council for 3 consecutive phrases since 2005. He represented the Chapaguri meeting constituency in the state meeting.
“Automatic assault rifles have been recovered from Hitesh’s residence. Cases have been registered under various sections of IPC and UAPA,” Kokrajhar SP Pushpraj Singh informed TOI.
The police mentioned Basumatary was picked up from his residence in Baksa district, whereas two others, Daorao Drkheb, a Bodo political chief, and Bikram Daimary, a BPF member, had been arrested from Kokrajhar district throughout operations launched virtually concurrently in the early hours on Saturday. Bikram is a resident of Udalguri district in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) however was picked up from Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district. Daorao hails from Kokrajhar.
