
AIZAWL: The latest transfer of the Mizoram authorities in the direction of banning the sale and consumption of dog meat has drawn flak from many sections of society, together with dog meat eaters and sellers.
A number of days after Assam border Kolasib district banned the inclusion of dog meat within the menu of feasts and social gatherings, the Mizoram Police on September 14 issued an order banning the consumption of dog meat in banquets inside the division. The order was in pursuant of a letter from the Mizoram State Animal Welfare Board to the state DGP which says that canine aren’t included amongst animals permitted for slaughter underneath The Mizoram Slaughter (Amendment) Act 2020 and Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulation 2011. At current, dog meat is brazenly bought in Aizawl at Rs 600 per kilo.
