Traffic Control Will Soon Go Hi-tech In Ne’s Biggest City | Guwahati News

GUWAHATI: Manual traffic control will be a thing of the past soon in Guwahati as vehicular movement across the city will be monitored and controlled directly from the command control room in Ulubari. The 74 manually handled traffic junctions in the city will be upgraded to the hi-tech integrated traffic management system (ITMS) by March.
The Guwahati Smart City Limited (GSCL), which is implementing the Rs 80-crore ITMS project, installed 20 traffic junctions on GS Road last year. They were inaugurated by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in August.

Traffic control will soon go hi-tech in NE’s biggest city

Urban affairs minister Ashok Singhal said control and management of vehicular movement in the city will be systematic and smooth with the completion of the project. “The project will reduce the deployment of traffic personnel at junctions. The automatic system fitted with traffic signal lights and CCTV surveillance will also help in mitigating traffic congestion in the city,” he added.
It is pertinent to mention that the GSCL had planned an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in 2020 to deal with traffic issues in the city and invited bids for the project. However, the matter remained sub-judice because of a case in the Gauhati High Court and the authority dropped the plan later.
Talking about the ICCC project, the minister said, “The project was dropped due to some reasons. Thereafter, we took over and started the ITMS. The ICCC project is under consideration. Let’s see what can be done.”
