GUWAHATI: Two back-to-back earthquakes of magnitudes 3.6 and 2.8 on the Richter scale hit central Assam on Saturday morning.
However, no accidents or harm to any property had been reported attributable to both of the quakes.

A National Center for Seismology report stated the primary quake of 3.6 magnitude on the Richter Scale was recorded at 9.03 am, with its epicentre close to Titabar in Jorhat district on the southern financial institution of Brahmaputra River, at a depth of 50 km.
People within the neighbouring Sivasagar, Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts additionally felt the jolt. Lakhimpur on the northern financial institution of Brahmaputra too felt the tremors.
“The earthquake could be felt in many areas in the north-western part of Nagaland as well,” the report said.
The second tremor of 2.8 magnitude on the Richter Scale was registered at 11.02 am, with the epicentre close to Dalgaon in Darrang district on the northern financial institution of Brahmaputra, at a depth of 9 km, it added.
This earthquake may very well be felt by folks dwelling in Udalguri, Baksa and Sonintpur district, whereas these in Morigaon on the southern financial institution of the mighty river additionally acquired the jolt.
The northeastern area falls within the excessive seismic zone, with earthquakes continuously hitting the area.
