Guwahati: An individual has been arrested in Assam’s Kokrajhar district for allegedly providing to promote parakeets on his YouTube channel, a forest official mentioned on Monday.
He was apprehended by Gossaigaon Police and later handed over to the forest division, the official mentioned.
Divisional forest officer (DFO) of Kachugaon Bhanu Sinha mentioned the accused, Jahidul Islam, was arrested on the premise of a criticism by People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
“After receiving the complaint, the local police and our department located the person. He was arrested by the police from Gossaigaon on Friday and the next day, he was handed over to us,” Sinha mentioned.
The individual was produced earlier than the native court docket the identical day and was despatched to judicial custody, the official mentioned.
“Two parakeets were recovered from Islam,” Sinha mentioned.
Catching, trapping and sale of parakeets are unlawful below the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
